Again, I am posting a bit early for Geneablogger’s Wednesday theme, but I was excited to get a huge surprise today.
I had written to the Poznan Project over the weekend to obtain what I believed was Adalbertus Rochowiak’s (my 2nd great-grandfather) first marriage. I’m now thinking he was married three times–based on what I received today. The record I received would be the second marriage for Adalbertus. Lukasz kindly sent me the marriage record today. Here it is.

Now, here too Adalbertus was indicated to be a widower (vidius), as he was in the marriage record to Marianna Mazana dated 27 October 1851. This record tells us he is living in Gorczyce, is 34 years old, and widowed. Marianna has not been married previously, is 24 years old, and her father, Valentine, is a widower. They were married in a village parish of Zedowo on 2 November 1832.
And a familiar names is popping up: Bryzykcy.
With these clues, I did notice there is one more record of a marriage for Adalbertus within the Poznan Project. This is to an Eva Malak in Gorzyce in 1825. It is possible this marriage produced children as well.

I noticed that this marriage record was from Chomętowo, Poland.
I believe that my GG Grandfather Jacob Szymanowski married Justina Bucholz at Chomętowo in 1842. It would seem that they lived in Chomętowo for some years because a son (Joseph) and a daughter (Rosalia) were also married there in 1868 and 1874 respectively. I would think that my Great Grandfather — Michael Szymanowski — was born there in 1861. Would love to confirm this as well as the relationships I’ve outlined and any additional siblings, etc.
What I do know is that Michael and his wife Mary Jablonski lived on Campbell St. (Their daughter Sophie married Frank Plenzler.). Michael’s brother Joseph and his wife Catharine Fojutoski lived on Nebraska Ave.
Any direction you can give me about getting records (marriage, birth, death) from Chomętowo, Poland.would be very helpful.

John, for marriage records, try the Poznan project. The person who runs the site/business, Lukas Bialecki, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. You can search on the names you’ve mentioned there for possibilities and then contact him. See http://poznan-project.psnc.pl/index.php?lang=en.
As for other records (death, civil, etc.), you might want to try your local LDS genealogy library for microfilm research. I have a number of records that another family member shared with me for the Plenzlers but I haven’t had much time to review or work with them this year. As I go through them and if I note the names you’ve mentioned, I’ll forward that information on to you. I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but the Toledo Catholic Diocesan records are online at familysearch.org. (You’ll need to dig to find them, they are not indexed either.) You might be able to find some hints/clues at the earliest ones there from the 1870s on if the priest recorded the parent’s mother and father in any of the baptismal/death records as well. Also try the Polish Genius email list (many helpful people there): http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/polish_genius/info.
